the nomination letterDesert View High School is a public high school in southern Tucson, Arizona. It opened in 1985 as part of the Sunnyside Unified School District and has grades 9-12. The school is ranked 125th among Arizona high schools. Desert View High School is of low socio-economic status, with 90% of students at the poverty level.
Although the school is highlighted first in the district, it is often treated differently. Different from its sister school, Desert View lacks the traditional winning aspect. In the 1980s and 1990s, Desert View High School sports were successful, with several state championships. Unfortunately, the wins decline, especially in football. In 2011, Desert View High School decided it was done with the losing record and hired Robert Bonillas, a former University of Arizona linebacker under Coach Dick Tomey. Robert had spent eight years at the sister high school in the district as an assistant coach. After gaining experience and learning about the community, he took on the challenge to ascend Desert View High School Football to where it was before. When Coach Bonillas took over the program, it was unsuccessful. The team was skeletal, and so were various areas that needed improvement. These areas included the weight room, updated equipment, uniforms, and improved wins and losses. During the first years as head coach, Desert View struggled. The football team numbers were low in membership, and the athletes were learning to become student-athletes. There was a lot more than just learning football fundamentals. Coach Bonillas and his staff had to come together to develop a plan for the student-athletes. There was enormous work to complete, and it had to happen quickly. Fortunately, the ability to upgrade the weight room came with a district bond. The team also began to come together. After two seasons of 2-8 & 0-10, the team improved and doubled their wins. Two years later, the team won enough games to get into the first round of the Arizona Interscholastic Athletics Playoffs. A quick turnaround was created through hard work and dedication. Desert View Football has continued to be successful. What was once the easiest team to beat on a Friday night is now recognized as a strong playoff contender. Although several goals have been met, one still needs to. The team is in desperate need of uniforms. With the lack of funding for public funding for schools and override/bond money running out, the team needs a new set of uniforms. The last time that uniforms were purchased was before the pandemic in 2016. We received one new jersey and new pants. We ask that you consider our program and select Desert View Football as one of your recipients.

the nomination letterI am the girls and boys coach for tennis at Canyon Hills High School. This was my first year with the tennis program in which we have done amazing things. For example; last year only 9 girls were playing and now I have 21. With the boys only 7 players and now 15. We are in need for more uniforms or even spirit gear to have pride. The school did a rebrand in 2020 in which they ordered vague uniforms for all the sports. During the girl season they had to keep sharing the uniforms as we were short on inventory. The girls are amazing but new uniforms that state they are a tennis team would give us that mental edge. Thank you.
Coach Caylor THE NOMINATION LETTERMy name is Santiago Rocha I am a teacher at Orange and I am currently working on my credential to become a Special Education Teacher. Additionally, I recently became the Head Football Coach for Orange Glen High School. I am an alumni of Orange Glen, played football, basketball, baseball and continued my football journey at the University of La Verne. I am from the Escondido community and I am proud to give back to the place that had a profound impact on my life.
I would like to nominate our Orange Glen football team for the 1morewin opportunity. Our team is made up of dedicated and passionate young athletes from low-income neighborhoods who have a love for the game but don't always have the resources to fully participate. One of the things I feel we have lacked in the past, was the Orange Glen football gear (spirit packs, shirts, shorts etc.). I feel that in order to generate buzz for the program and motivation for some of these young men who have/have not played football before is help create a sense of pride with the gear that they are able to wear to work out, play 7v7's, or even walk around the community in. Our team has faced many challenges this past year, a league championship season wiped away from a technicality and some players transferring out. Despite these obstacles, our players have shown incredible resilience and determination, still showing up to lifting/conditioning with a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard. The 1morewin opportunity could provide our team with the resources that I will feel will help us succeed both on and off the field, instilling important values such as teamwork, discipline, and determination. By supporting Orange Glen Football, you are not only investing in the development of young athletes but also in the future of our community. Orange Glen Football provides a positive outlet for our players, keeping them off the streets and focused on achieving their goals. The Orange Glen community is a family. The staff, administration and parents care about each other here and I know that with your help, we can continue to provide a safe and supportive environment for our players to grow and thrive, while also promoting a sense of unity and pride within our community. Thank you for considering our nomination and for supporting our team in reaching our full potential. Santiago Rocha Thank you to Mal Hall, Vickie Barbolak, Chinedu Unaka, Torio Van Grol, and Luis Garcia! Also, a special thank you to The Grand Comedy Club in Escondido. Our first comedy show fundraiser went great and we are looking forward to doing more. Someone in the audience won a Super 73 e-bike and rolled their way out of the club with it! Adam and the crew at The Grand Comedy Club were very gracious and the food was delicious! We raised just under $4000.00 at this event for high school athletics in San Diego. If you know a high school athletic program that needs help with equipment or resources, nominate them in the menu bar above.

Granite Hills high school track and field had been using the same uniforms for over 20 years. Thanks to all of our generous donors, we we're able to provide 150 new uniforms and shorts to the 2022 Granite Hills Track and Field team. THE NOMINATION LETTER Hello, My name is Ava Guerra. I recently graduated from Granite Hills High School this past spring. I was a three-year tri-sport varsity athlete at the school, running track and cross country and playing soccer. I wanted to bring it to your attention that our track program desperately needs new uniforms. After four years of running on the track team, not once was the whole team ever matching at a meet because we don’t have enough in-tact uniforms for each athlete. From holes in shorts to tears in shirts to not even having enough sweatsuits for the entire team, it is clear that this nomination is necessary. There have been countless times where, for example, our long-distance runners will be in a completely different uniform than our sprinters, throwers, and jumpers. Uniforms are necessary for a team to create a special bond. They are what the competition first sees, what our athletes grow confident in their events. Every other program at our school is equipped with enough matching, in-tact uniforms for every student-athlete participating on the squad. The reasoning behind this is because our head coach, Coach Dann, is the most selfless man you will ever meet. This year, coach Dan will start his 28th season as a coach and 16th as head coach (since the 06/07 school year). He is an inspiration to the team, but he never asks for help when needed. Therefore, I find it necessary that our track program gets the same privilege to represent Granite Hills High School, its team, and its hard work. For there is honor in wearing a uniform. That is why I’m here asking you today to help the Granite Hills Track Team enhance their confidence as a whole with enough matching uniforms to supply the entire team this upcoming season.
We respectfully ask for one hundred and fifty total (seventy-five per both girls and boys track)singlets, shorts, and warm-up sweats. Thank you! Ava Guerra Granite Hills High School Alumni Class of 2021 (PHOTOS BELOW) Congratulations to Fallbrook High School Girls Basketball! The Warriors are a very competitive program in north county playing in the Valley League. Their program struggles to fundraise and we received multiple letters about their team. The 1 More Win crew surprised the players with new warm-up suits, shooting shirts, backpacks and basketballs right before they started practice, Dec 20th. Here is the nomination letter we received about the team: I am part of the Fallbrook Girls Basketball team. I am a senior this year and we got second place in CIF division 3 basketball for girls. We qualified and made it to regionals and placed 2nd in regionals. Sadly, our high school does not give us the funds needed for proper equipment like: shooting machines, spirit wear, jerseys. All we got last year was shooting shirts that was provided privately by one of my teammates parents. We are in desperate need of money to help us get the proper equipment needed to go as far as we can. We are the Fallbrook Girls Basketball team and would really appreciate the support from you guys! -Elley Ahrend We will be watching Fallbrook High Girls Basketball this season and we are very hopeful that they can finish what they started last season! Go Warriors!

This was unique because Grossmont was the school who missed out on their 2020 donation due to the pandemic. Watch -- Fox 5 coverage of Grossmont Girls Softball Donation The NominationHi I’m a mom at Grossmont’s high school . My daughters both go there and are very involved in the wonderful sports programs offered at the school. My favorite sport is softball and both of my girls play. My oldest played JV for two years and my youngest will hopefully make the team this spring. The softball program does a few fundraisers but never seem to get enough money for new uniforms and helmets- I have personally donated many items bats balls socks etc but they could really use some new uniforms and helmets. I don’t think they have had them replaced for years . While grossmont is mostly known for baseball and has a few players in the big leagues. Those player pay if forward and the baseball team has benefitted greatly. It would be beyond awesome for the lady foothillers to get some new duds. Please consider our school! Thank you in advance . The DonationThanks to our generous network of sponsors and supporters, we were able to donate almost $7500 worth of equipment for the girls varsity softball team at Grossmont High. Brand new helmets, home and away jerseys, and logo'd Nike backpacks.
